Hot! Taxi Driver Arrested And Questioned Over Road Death In Redcar

A 45 year old cab driver has been arrested in connection with an accident that claimed the life of 19 year old Kirsty Fennon. She died after being struck by a cab last Friday morning. The accident happened on the Redcar-Marske stretch of road. The man is suspected to have caused the death through dangerous driving. The police confirmed the arrest and also stated that the man has been released on bail but further inquiries will be made.

Miss Fennon, who lived in Redcar, was pronounced dead by medics who were at the scene. Cleveland police are actively seeking witnesses to the incident which happened shortly before 5am on a stretch of road with a 40mph speed limit. The post mortem examination was carried out on Friday afternoon.

Social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook have been inundated by tributes for the popular teenager. One mourner lamented the fact that the good are always taken from the world too soon. The majority of tributes simply said Rest In Peace with mentions of Miss Fallon’s family also included.

According to police, the accident happened close to Bydales School which is near the Marske entrance. The road was closed immediately after the accident. The taxi driver remained at the scene and spoke to police. Miss Fallon was wearing a dark jacket, blue jeans and black boots. Officers do not know if she was alone at the time of the tragedy nor could they ascertain the direction in which she was walking.

In July 2008, this stretch of road had street lights but complaints by locals had them removed. The lights were spread out over 1.5 kilometres but were said to be an eyesore by local residents. The Redcar & Cleveland Council installed over 40 lights but had to take them down a few days later because of the complaints. The project cost them £9,000. Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the accident.
